What’s In A Name?

Reject the Labels. Rediscover Who You Are
I can’t stress this enough: the importance of women learning who God created them to be and refusing to accept every label the world tries to assign to us.

This message is not to convince you to go to church or read your Bible, although you should! That’s not the focus today.

This message is for every woman, no matter where you are in your personal or Christian journey.
It’s for the casual Christian woman who shows up, but doesn’t fully walk it out.
It’s for the woman who has been hurt by the church and walked away.
It’s for the woman who has decided that temporary pleasure is easier than purpose.
And it’s for the woman who feels like she’s already too far gone, emotionally, spiritually, and financially, to try to change.
Yes… This is for you!
Because no matter where you are in your journey, you need to hear this:

You are better than what they told you!
Somewhere along the way, you were lied to.
And not just once, but repeatedly.
So much so that the lies started to sound like truth… and then became your identity.
And for those who confidently say, “I know who I am,” let me ask you this:
• How many songs are on your playlist that degrade women?
• How many times have you sung along to lyrics that call you out of your name?
• Why do you sing lyrics that reduce you to something less than human?
And somehow… it became normal.
Some argue, “The meaning has changed.”
But has it?
Do we use those same derogatory words in love songs?
In wedding vows?
On greeting cards?
No, we don’t.
Because deep down, we know exactly what those words mean.
The truth is, society didn’t change the meaning… it conditioned women to accept the disrespect.

Now let’s go deeper.
To the woman who was told:
• You’re not smart enough
• You’re not pretty enough
• Your hair is too kinky
• Your skin is too dark
• Your body is too shapely… or you’re just not enough
Why did you believe it? Why did you accept it?
We live in a world that teaches women how to hide themselves,
layer the makeup so heavily that the real you becomes unrecognizable, outwardly altering our features and trying to redefine what God already formed perfectly!
And while those techniques may change the outward appearance…
They can never change your true characteristics. Because the real you was never the problem.

So today, this is your moment.
Stop allowing negative words to be spoken over your life.
Stop repeating them to yourself.

You are:
• Beautiful, Intelligent, Creative, Strong, Graceful, Resilient , and Worthy
And let’s be just as clear about who you are not:
You are not:
• Ugly, Worthless, Lazy, Jealous, Bitter,
• Disposable
• A female dog
• Or anything this world has tried to reduce you to
And you are certainly not what degrading words try to label you as.
Any man who sees you through that lens is not worthy of you.
Any voice, music, media, or influence that reinforces that image is not worthy of your attention, your loyalty, or your support.

It’s time to get to know yourself and learn who God created you to be. Because God did not make a mistake when He created you, your existence is not an accident. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did! So, my sisters pause for a moment. Look in the mirror. Not so quickly! Not casually. But intentionally.

See the woman staring back at you, the one God handcrafted with purpose, beauty, and intention. If you look at yourself and see flaw after flaw, then the lies and ridicule about you have taken hold – so much so, all you see are the lies you’ve been told. What a shame! Reject those lies and take another look. Let’s begin again – let today be the day you reject every lie. Every negative label. Every word that tries to make you less than who you are.

Replace it with truth:

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
Walk in that truth. Speak from that truth. Live from that truth.
Because no matter where you are in your journey… Let today be the beginning of the real you!
